nomadic design
They say that an original band needs quite a bit of luck and timing to succeed these days - that having the right people see just the right performance is imperative. Hopefully, that’s not true as the members of nomadic design feel they may have used up their share of luck when these three driven musicians from different backgrounds and very different schools of thought found each other.
Steve (guitar, synth, mandolin, percussion & vocals) had been looking for a new band for quite some time before getting a call that seemed promising. Justin (bass, synth, percussion & vocals) was answering an Aquarian newspaper advertisement. As the two musicians continued to get to know each other and grow, they both realized that as challenging as it was to hold a team together, having found at least one other person who shared a similar musical and lifelong vision was something both rare and priceless. On a cold winter night, Eric (drums & percussion) walked across the field into the band room and something special occurred. It was some of the best music that had ever echoed through the tree farm. They’ve been working together ever since, spending countless hours rehearsing and going crazy in that old converted chicken coop with band consultant and archivist, Josh and sound technician, James.
The guys have been developing their blend of eccentric rhythms, melodic guitar/bass/synth & mandolin interplay. They have come a long way since their first gig: a five-set all-day marathon at the New Jersey Hot Air Balloon Festival. Becoming regulars on the college, festival and shore circuits, as well as frequenting hidden treasures like The Stanhope House (north Jersey), Tobacco Road (NYC) and mainstays like The Stone Pony (Asbury Park, NJ), the band is perpetually stretching its boundaries.
Feeding off years of varied musical experience, their sound is both unique and familiar, and is receiving an enthusiastic response from a diverse audience. A progressive mix of funk, roots rock, and jazz, the band covers a wide spectrum from structured compositions to unbridled improvisation. Whether playing for crowds back dropped by the waves of the Atlantic, trees and mountains at the festivals, or smoke filled rooms of the clubs, nomadic design creates a musical experience that entertains and inspires. After a recent gig, the booking agent was overheard to say, “I got a lot more than I expected - these guys rock. Their vibe and fans are great...”
